Wells SC Club Presentation Night 2019

Wells Swimming Club held an extremely successful Club Championships recently with over 70 swimmers taking part!  Everyone enjoyed a fantastic couple of evenings at the Kings of Wessex pool in Cheddar - from the youngest aged 6 to the oldest aged over 70!  There were some fantastic races of all distances from 25m up to 1500m, some very close finishes and some incredible support from parents, friends and fellow swimmers.

A few weeks later the club held the annual presentation evening near Wells where all the medallists from the championships were rewarded with gold, silver and bronze medals for each race.  Wells SC has a long history and some of the trophies awarded date back as far as 1936.  The race medals and trophies were followed by the BAGCAT age group trophies which were won by:

Age 9 Girls – Lily Clark

Age 9 Boys – Ralph Sweeney

Age 10 Girls – Sian Davies

Age 10 Boys – Ewan Verel

Age 11 Girls – Ellie Sealy

Age 11 Boys – Lachlan Taylor

Age 12 Girls – Imogen Smith

Age 12 Boys – Max Banwell

Age 13 Girls – Elizabeth Chambers

Age 13 Boys – Cameron Taylor

Age 14 Girls – Poppy McGhee

Age 14 Boys – Anthony Davies

Age 15 and over Girls – Maisie Banwell

Age 15 and over Boys – Sean Robinson

BAGCAT stands for British Age Group Category and these awards are determined by points awarded for times achieved in different races – which includes an individual medley, a long distance race (400m / 800m / 1500m), a sprint race (50m / 100m) and a 200m race of any stroke except freestyle.

The club also awarded the following trophies based on achievements over the year as well as at the Club Championships:

Most improved girl – Layla Matthews (12)

Most improved boy – Ferdia Kane (13)

Young swimmer of the year – Pippa Kane (10)

Top Wells Girl – Maisie Banwell (15)

Top Wells Boy – Declan Truan-Thatcher (13)

Swimmer of the year – Imogen Smith (12)

Volunteer of the year – Rosie Freeman

The final award is a trophy for the “Swimmers’ swimmer” – voted by the swimmers on presentation night and this year it went to Theo Truan-Thatcher aged 12 for his continuing hard work in training and determination to succeed.
