Club Structure
Hillingdon Swimming Club is made up of two Houses
Hillingdon SC was established in its current form in 2007 through the merger of Hillingdon Borough Elite Swimming Team (HBEST) and Ruislip Northwood Swim Squads (RNSS).
Now a wholly integrated club structure, the two houses are known as the Performance Squads and the Development Squads, each with a number of squads catering for a wide range of abilities and age groups with an interlinked pathway structure existing between both.
Swimmers move between Squads and Houses depending on their individual development and needs. The final decision for these moves is taken by the Head of Development and Head of Performance in conjunction with their coaching team.
The training programme throughout the club is based upon British Swimming's Optimal Athlete Development Framework (OADF), technical development and a progressive increase in training.

Development Squads (formerly Ruislip Northwood Swim Squad – RNSS)
The Development Squads are where all our swimmers’ journeys begin. The focus is on developing swimmers with a well-rounded technical ability across the four competitive swimming strokes. The Development Squad structure takes swimmers from novice club swimmers to initial competitions and on through to County level and up to Regional level.
Swimmers join Hillingdon SC in our Development Squads through a number of different pathways;
-
The majority transition from our Junior Section learn to swim academy
-
Swimmers from other swimming clubs following a successful trial
-
Through an assessment session having learned to swim at a local learn to swim programme
From the age of 11/12 those swimmers whose skills have progressed to the required level will be invited to join the Performance Squads.
The structure of the Development Squads provides for swimmers to continue to challenge themselves and develop into their late teens. Those swimmers who are not invited to join the Performance Squads at an early age will be provided the opportunity to do so right through their time in the Development Squads once their ability level reaches the required standard.

Performance Squads (formerly Hillingdon Borough Elite Squad – HBEST)
Our Performance Squads programme is designed to allow swimmers to take their swimming through to Regional, National and International level. We are proud of our strong history of National success and many athletes who have represented their home country whilst part of our Performance Squads.
The Performance Squads programme grew out of the Hillingdon Borough Elite Swim Team (HBEST). Swimmers are made up of those that have been identified by coaches as capable of training and competing at a high level. The majority of these swimmers will have progressed through our Development Squads, with the remainder being swimmers who have joined us having moved to the area and previously trained to a high-competitive level at another swimming club. Swimming is their number one activity outside of school, allowing them to commit to the required number of sessions and, in so doing, being able to access a training schedule that is designed to allow them progress to the heights of the sport.
