We are a swimming club based at Moorways Sports Village in Derby. We were formed in April 2023 from the merger of City of Derby Swimming Club and Derventio Excel Swim Squad, both long established clubs well known for producing outstanding swimmers including Adam Peaty, Molly Renshaw, Abbie Wood and Jacob Whittle.
We aim to develop our swimmers into competent, confident swimmers, being part of a team, making friends, and gaining confidence in the water in a welcoming supportive environment. Whatever your goals as a swimmer, we can help you achieve them.
Club and Performance Swimming
We train swimmers of all ages and abilities. We provide high quality teaching and coaching right from when swimmers first join us (often from their local Learn to Swim programme), progressing through our squads as their swimming skills develop - learning the swimming strokes, how to dive and do tumble turns.
Our Performance squads bring together the best swimmers in Derbyshire to train together, striving to be right up there with the best, both nationally and internationally.
Our Aim:
Our aim is to coach and develop swimmers to be the best they can be, whatever their goals.
We have members of all ages, from youngsters coming out of the 'Learn to Swim' programme right up to Masters who have been swimming for 30 years or more.
We offer a natural progression for children to continue swimming with us after they’ve completed the ‘Learn to Swim’ programme (either at Moorways or elsewhere) and have reached Stage 8. After an initial assessment by one of our swimming coaches, swimmers can join one of our squads, suited to their current level of swimming. Our swim members swim with us regularly, usually 2 or 3 times a week to start off with – learning all the 4 swimming strokes, diving and tumble turns, and will enter local swimming competitions (galas) if they want to compete. As swimmers improve, they will progress through our squad system.

We are affiliated to Swim England, our governing body, and all of our swimmers will become members of Swim England when they join us.

Elite swimming
We are also a Performance Pathway for swimmers in Derbyshire. Working closely with other clubs in Derbyshire, the best swimmers in Derbyshire are identified and invited to join our Performance Squads, if they meet certain entry criteria. They train with us up to 9 pool sessions a week, plus gym/land based training.
We have a great track record in producing outstanding swimmers. Our swimmers have gone on to represent Great Britain round the world, including at the Olympics – most notably Adam Peaty! One of our current swimmers Imogen Clark is the current British record holder and represented GB at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, and the World Short Course championships in Australia in December 2022.

Who can join us?
Anyone! We welcome members of any age, once they have learnt to swim. Disability swimmers are welcome.
