We held an Officials Mentoring Session at Moorways yesterday. Club chair and referee Babs Ingram shared some PowerPoint presentations she'd produced, covering many aspects of officiating, and sharing her experience of being an official for the past 18 years! In all there were 16 officials in attendance, varying from J1 trainees to referees. Thank you to referees Paul Hopkinson and Claire Spink for also being there to give help and advice. One of the talking points was judging turns, especially the back to breast turn during individual medleys. Babs's son...
Many thanks to International swimmer Jamie Ingram for attending our training sessions last night with Arena race suits, in a 'Tech-Rep' session. Jamie brought along a huge range of different Arena suits in different sizes, so the swimmers could try them on and swim in them during their training session. This 'try before you buy' session is an excellent initiative, allowing swimmers to choose the best suit for them, with expert advice from Jamie. We were also very grateful to Martyn from SportySwim who attended the session as well, bringing...
Good morning. FYI there is a lost property container in the storage room next to the pool, and it's got a huge number of items in there. Could you please encourage your swimmers to have a look through over the coming 10 days, especially if you know you're missing some kit. Moorways will be discarding any unclaimed items by the end of the month. Thank you.
Matched Giving Many companies run match funding schemes, whereby the company will donate money to a charitable organisation such as ours, as recognition of fundraising and volunteering by their staff. So if you help out at one of our events, you could claim a charitable donation from the company you work for. A recent example of this was one of our parents, who works for Lloyds Bank. They helped raise money for Derby Excel by running the raffle at one of our Open meets, and was able to claim £500...
Hello I’d like to update you on some changes to Derby Excel. You’ll be aware that our Director of Swimming John Adye is leaving the club, and today will be his last day with us. John has been with us since 2022, and helped steer us through the merger between City of Derby and Derventio Excel, and has been instrumental in building Derby Excel since then. I’d like to extend our warm and grateful thanks to him, on behalf of the Trustees and the wider club. We wish him all...
Derby Excel swimming club recently held a successful Christmas social for 72 swimmers across all the squads at Megazone in the Willows Sports Centre in Derby. The event was filled with fun and festive spirit, providing a welcome break from their intensive training and recent competitions, such as the Christmas Cracker meet. The main activities of the evening included: · Laser Tag: The swimmers split into multiple teams for two competitive games of laser tag, navigating the multi-level futuristic arena. · Delicious Buffet: After the excitement, participants refueled with a...
On Tuesday 16th December, our Academy 1, Junior Academy and Ignite squad took part in some fun races. It was a great opportunity for the swimmers to have ago at racing in a relaxed, non-competitive environment. The swimmers showed great enthusiasm and enjoyed the chance to race alongside their teammates. The session really helped to build confidence, race skills and familiarity with a competition - style setting. Well done to all those who took part, we hope you enjoyed it. Thank you to Pippa Hibbs for organising this event, and...

Last weekend Derby Excel hosted our final meet of the year, a level 3 short course at Moorways in Derby. We had entries from 15 clubs, and entries closed in early October because the meet had reached capacity. It was held at the same time as Winter Nationals at Ponds Forge in Sheffield, meaning swimmers from many clubs were competing at both venues. Racing took place over two days, and there were many great performances from the swimmers. The full results can be found here: https://derbyexcel.swimresults.online/xmascracker25/ Top visiting club was...
