Many thanks to ice hockey's Sheffield Steelers for inviting our swimmers to attend their match last night against Nottingham Panthers. They very kindly provided compliementary tickets for swimmers/siblings, and reduced prices for parents/carers. In all, over 80 club members attended the game at the Utilita Arena in Sheffield, and for many it was their first ice hockey game. Steelers gave our club a couple of 'shout outs' during the evening. A brilliant weekend for Derby Excel! On 15–16 November at Water Meadows Leisure Centre, our swimmers competed in the Major Oak Open Meet, delivering excellent performances. Forty-nine swimmers entered 257 events, achieving 45 podium finishes: 17 Gold, 14 Silver, and 14 Bronze. Seven swimmers (58% of qualifiers) qualified for the prestigious Skins Events after excelling in the 200 IM. The event overall was compelling viewing, with all our swimmers showing mature racing. Many of our Masters squad competed at the Masters Nationals event recently at Ponds Forge. Georgie Pryor had a particularly fine meet, breaking 4 Masters team World records, and also the European 100m butterfly record in the 25-29 years category. Derby Excel will be entering 2 teams in this year's Notts and Derbyshire Junior Swimming League (DNJSL, ie the Diddy League). The first round of the competition is on Saturday 28th March 2026. Both A and B teams have been drawn together in gala 2, against CABSC, Mansfield, Long Eaton B and Sherwood. We don't yet know the venue/warm up time.
