Many of our Masters squad competed at the Masters Nationals event recently at Ponds Forge. Georgie Pryor had a particularly fine meet, breaking 4 Masters team World records, and also the European 100m butterfly record in the 25-29 years category. Derby Excel will be entering 2 teams in this year's Notts and Derbyshire Junior Swimming League (DNJSL, ie the Diddy League). The first round of the competition is on Saturday 28th March 2026. Both A and B teams have been drawn together in gala 2, against CABSC, Mansfield, Long Eaton B and Sherwood. We don't yet know the venue/warm up time. Our swimmers were in action at Moorways last night in the second round of the Arena league, with Derby Excel hosting the event. Eight teams competed on the night, and after 51 events, Derby Excel were tied on points with Redditch, both on 294 points. The result was decided on countback with Derby Excel having more wins over the evening, meaning we finished in first place! East Midland Short Course Championships were held at a freezing Harvey Haddon Leisure Centre Friday to Sunday last week. All the swimmers and volunteer helpers had to contend with these challenging conditions, whilst attempting to bring their ‘A’ game to their races. With Repton and Loughborough fielding large teams, including swimmers who have represented Team GB at the Olympics and World Championships, it was always going to be challenging to medal, or even reach the finals. Derby Excel swimmers headed to Matlock yesterday to take part in Belper Marlin's Ghoul in the Pool. This is always a really fun meet, with Halloween decor, and many officials and helpers in Halloween costumes! Well done to all the swimmers who took part. The second and third days of the DASA short course competition were held at the Arc, Matlock, and were another success for our Derby Excel swimmers. Well done to everyone who took part, we had many many excellent swims, with excellent skills on show even at this early point in the season. Important Announcement for Derby Excel Volunteers, Helpers and Officials The Trustees have signed an SLA (Service Level Agreement) for the next 5 years with Everyone Active, who manage and run Moorways. Derbyshire ASA held the first day of their new County Short Course Competition at our home pool of Moorways on Sunday. It continues next weekend (18th and 19th October). Only swimmers affiliated to Derbyshire clubs can take part, with entries coming from 17 clubs in the county. Our swimmers were in action in the Arena league on Saturday evening. Derby Excel are in the W Mids Premier Division, which has 24 clubs in it and the team travelled to Sandwell Aquatics centre in Smethwick for the event. It was a close competition, with DX finishing in 3rd place on 264 points behind Nuneaton & Bedworth A who won with 286 points, just ahead of Repton B on 279 points.
