The Venue: Moorways Sports Village, Moor Lane, Derby DE24 9HY
Moorways is a large venue, so to give you an idea of the layout:
It is over 3 floors:
- The ground floor has the reception, cafe and access to the spectator balcony.
- The lower ground floor has the competition pool and leisure pool, along with changing rooms for the swimmers.
- The upper floor where officials are meeting has the gym, spinning and meeting rooms. There is a lift should you need it.
Parking:
As you turn off Ormaston Park Road (A5111) on to Moor Lane, you will see the leisure centre on your left. Go past the main first car park you come to (reserved for other centre users and disability parking) and the officials' and helpers free car park is a few metres on your left effectively behind the centre building. This is sometimes referred to as the leisure centre overflow or rear car park. Officials and helpers with a car park pass can park here.
The car park for swimmers and spectators is a little way further down the road off site in a large Rolls Royce car park at a cost of £3 which goes towards the scouts who are kindly supervising the car park. Please click below for a link to the map!
Swimmers/Coaches - as you enter the building, you'll see the reception desk in front of you. Head for the stairs, which are through the turnstiles to the left of the reception desk, and go down to the changing rooms. Please wear pool shoes, no outdoor shoes are permitted poolside by Moorways. There is fixed seating poolside, or you can bring a poolside chair (space permitting).
Spectators - as you enter the building, turn left and go along, past the cafe on your right, past the windows overlooking the pool, to the end of the corridor to the Admissions desk.
Officials - usually we meet in one of the upstairs Studios. As you enter the building, you'll see the reception desk in front of you. Head for the stairs which are through the turnstiles to the left of the reception desk, go up to next level and follow the signs to the Studio. There is a lift behind the turnstiles. Each briefing will be 30 minutes before the session start time. Gents and ladies facilities and changing rooms are also nearby on this floor. The studio will probably not be locked during the sessions so it is recommended you use one of the lockers on the corridor to store any possessions and valuables. A £1 deposit will be required.
Please remember to bring your own water bottle with you which may be filled at several points including one on the poolside.
This is an amazing £42 million venue, that opened in 2022. It has a 10 lane pool, with a swim down pool, and we will be using backstroke ledges.
