Our swimmers were in action very early in the new year with the Level 3 Repton New Year Meet. This was a level 3 event, held over 3 sessions on Friday 3rd January. Our swimmers were in action at our Christmas Cracker meet on 21st/22nd December at our home pool, Moorways. It was a very well attended meet, with nearly 3000 swims over the 2 days of competition, with swimmers making the most of the last short course meet of the year, and an opportunity to post qualifying times for the County Championships and Regionals. Our swimmers raced at the third round of the Arena league on Saturday evening at Pingles Leisure Centre, and came away with a thoroughly deserved win! Derby Excel finished top of gala 2, with 286 points, 10 points ahead of Walsall, with Bramcote third with 253 points. Braunstone were 4th with 231 points. Sandwell Aquatics were 5th on 220, just 2 points ahead of Abingdon Vale. Chase were 7th and Solihull 8th. Winter Nationals December 2024 Our swimmers have been competing at the only National short course event of the year, Swim England Winter Nationals at Ponds Forge, over 4 days last week. Our Queens of the pool Imogen Clark and Georgina Pryor once again prevailed against some tough opposition. Imogen Clark (25) won GOLD in the 100m breaststroke – with a heat swim of 1:07.80 to qualify in third place, then smashed the final to win in a time of 1:05.79, nearly a second ahead of Loughborough Performance Centre’s Elizabeth Booker....
Our swimmers were in action again in Round 2 of the Arena league on 9th November. We were once again racing at Sandwell Aquatics Centre, the venue that staged the swimming at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. We finished in third place overall on 251 points, with the event being won by City of Coventry A who amassed an impressive 342 points, and Blythe Barracudas second on 287 points. Thirty five of our swimmers headed to Harvey Haddon Leisure Centre in Nottingham last weekend to take part in the 2024 East Midlands Regional Short Course Championships. Swimmers from all over the region took part, including around a dozen Olympians from the Loughborough Performance Centre. Our swimmers had a very successful meet, and it was great for them to race against such high quality opposition - even though it meant medals were harder to come by! We are hosting a Masters Development Day on Saturday 23rd September, intended for Masters swimmers of all ages and abilities. This will take the form of a full day's workshop covering various topics such as Strength and Conditioning training, injury prevention, psychological skills, endurance/distance training and a technique session.
