Derby Excel Committee

Many of our Elite swimmers competed at the short course Winter Nationals over 4 days last week, and had some absolutely outstanding results. We finished in fourth place in the medals table, behind Loughborough University, Loughborough National Centre and Bath National Centre - ie the 'top club' in the whole country, a really fantastic achievement. Imogen Clark has done it again! Swimogen won another medal at the European short course championships in Romania this evening, in the 50m breaststroke. Her time of 29.41 was just outside her own British record, and helped the GB team to their best medal haul ever. The British team topped the medals table with 9 golds, 8 silver and 6 bronze (23 in total) - with France second with 22 medals, and Italy third. We are all so proud of you Imogen!

Our team travelled to Rugby for the final round of the Arena League, where we competed in the W Mids Premier League final. There were some eye-catching results, with swimmers putting in some excellent performances which collectively saw us finish in fourth place on 223 points, just 13 points behind 3rd place Worcester. Repton were the winners on the night, with Coventry in second place. Leamington were 5th, Redditch 6th, and Belper Marlin 7th, and Solihull in 8th. Wow! Our very own Imogen Clark won a bronze medal as part of the GB ladies 4 x 50m medley relay team at the European Short Course Championships in Romania today. She swam a blistering time of 28.66 seconds in the breaststroke leg, the quickest breaststroke leg of any team. What a fantastic night of racing last night at Pingles Leisure Centre, which saw Derby Excel win with a total of 305 points! In a hard fought night of racing, Derby Excel held off a strong challenge from Repton A, who finished in second place with 294 points, with Redditch third on 284 points. Derby Excel had an amazing weekend at the Regional Championships at Harvey Hadden in Nottingham last weekend, finishing with a medals tally of 23 gold, 12 silver and 7 bronze. Congratulations to all our swimmers who represented Derbyshire at the Inter-county Championships. Derbyshire were promoted to Division 1 last season, and were looking to push on and establish themselves this year. The team were coached by Repton's Ash Morris and Long Eaton's Ollie Tipping. Our swimmers performed brilliantly, especially as the event was so early in the season with Derbyshire finishing in 8th place with 367 points, 2 points ahead of Lancashire on 365 points, and 14 points behind Northumberland & Durham.
