Congratulations to Gabby Hodson, Josh Geary and Olivia Logan who have moved from the North West Academy into the Triathlon England Next Generation Academy after recent trials. This moves them up into the top few athletes in their age groups in the country. Well done all!

Southport Juniors did the club proud at the Burnley Bobcats Meet over the weekend of Sat 7th and Sun 8th March at Darwen. They came out top overall club. Some fantastic swims from the strong young team winning loads of medals but more important the amount of Pbs acheived by the swimmers, with a number obtaining North West qualifying times. After getting to the top club team event event in the country for the first time in the clubs 140 year history, the swimmers did themseleves proud, The atmosphere was fantastic at the 10 lane 50m, Cardiff International Pool with horns flags and face paint. The instruction to the swimmers was just “Enjoy yourselves and the occasion” The club drew back some of the older swimmers to swim in the open events who were apart of the team who won the National Junior Title back in 2009 and 2010. Well done to all the swimmers who competed at the Lancashire County Championships 2019. They where held over three long weekends, two at the Commonwealth Pool in Manchester and the other at the Aquatic Centre in Liverpool, 26/27th Jan 2/3rd Feb and 9/10th Feb. Some fantastic swims with numerous medals and top 8 places achieved. More important was the number of Pbs that the swimmers made. Southport Swimming Club Junior Team of 2018 continued the proud tradition of making and competing well in the National Junior League Final at Corby on Sunday 25th November. Sponsored by MDH Services the team competed for every point in the final against mainly big city team – City of Leeds, Guildford City, City of Derby, City of Leicester, City of Coventry, Tynemouth, Camden Brough of London. For the first time in 20 odd years, what everyone has know as the Echo Cup changed its sponsor and name to the CO-OP Cup in 2018. Southport having won the cup for the last fourteen (14) years in succession. It attracts one of the best atmospheres you will ever come across in a swimming pool. Southport Swimming Club junior team 9-12yrs swam their way through to the North of England Junior League Final in September by winning the North West Micro League Final. On Sunday 7th October the team took on some of the top City teams in the North at Blackpool. Including last years National champions the City of Leeds.
