At the recently held Lancashire County Championships over two long weekends 23rd, 24th, 30th and 31st January 2016, at the Commonwealth Pool in Manchester Southport came runners up in the Top Club award. So far the 2016 season has been one of the most successful for Southport Swimming Club. This has been shown by the amount of qualifiers that the club has competing, at the second biggest Age Group and Youth swimming championships in the Country, only behind the National Championships. Last Sunday 15th October 2015 The Clubs Junior (9-12yrs) retained the Echo Cup for a resounding 12th year in succession. In the final was the other top seven teams from the Wirral, Cheshire, West Lancs and Mersyside. The Echo cup is the nosiest event of the year with a full capacity of around 500 spectators and and over 250 swimmers crammed into Everton Park Sports Centre.. Southport Swimming Clubs Junior Team competed in the North of England Junior Final on Sunday 4th October. Swimming against some of the top teams in the North at the Stechford pool in Birmingham. This closely fought gala throughout the 48 events, with the top four teams going forward to the National Final in Corby at the end of November. The club wishes to congratulate Southport Swimming Clubs ambassador Holly Hibbott on her fantastic achievement winning gold in the 800m Freestyle. Holly Hibbott stormed to 800m freestyle gold after a nail-biting final at the Baku 2015 European Games. The 15-year-old kept pace with the rest of the field for much of the race before pulling clear in the final 100m. Today Holly Hibbott has been selected by the British Olympic Association to swim for Team GB in the European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan between 12th – 28th June 2015.The games consist of 13 sports and 19 disciplines and British Swimming are taking a strong 24 competitors to compete against 50 other European Nations. Later in the year in August, Holly has been selected with a much smaller squad to compete in the World Junior Swimming Championships in Singapore with a holding camp in Thailand prior to the Championships.
