Senior Club Captains

Becoming a Club Captain is an honour and a privilege and we are very proud of any of our swimmers who take on this leadership responsibility. To be a Club Captain you must be able to demonstrate commitment to your sport while demonstrating the ability to take responsibility for your training and actions. We expect each captain to show respect to fellow swimmers, coaches and associated members of the club, while keeping our team ethos at the heart of everything you do.

Role Description

The Senior Club Captain is a senior leadership role, responsible for representing the swimmers, fostering a positive and inclusive team culture and supporting coaches, junior club captains and committee members in the smooth running of the club. The Captain leads by example in training, competition and conduct, as well as acting as a role model for swimmers of all ages.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Team Culture
    • Promote a positive, respectful and motivating environment for all swimmers
    • Lead team warm-ups, group activities and club events when required
    • Encourage team spirit, sportsmanship and support among swimmers
    • Welcome new members and help integrate them into the club community
    • Support and mentor the junior club captains
  • Athlete Representation
    • Act as a liaison between swimmers, coaches and club management
    • Provide feedback from the swimming group in an appropriate and constructive manner
  • Training & Performance
    • Demonstrate commitment and professionalism in training and competition
    • Model excellent attendance, punctuality and preparation habits
    • Encourage younger or less experienced swimmers and offer peer mentoring
  • Events & Club Promotion
    • Support coaches, junior club captains and officials during training sessions, meets and club activities
    • Represent the club at competitions, public events and award ceremonies
    • Help organise team-building activities and contribute to event planning, when needed
